Redemption Square Film Screening with John Moody (MCP 2016)

Date:
Wednesday, April 26, 2017 - 18:00 to 20:00

Please join John Moody (MCP '16) next Wednesday for an advanced screening and discussion of his film project Redemption Square (2017). This project, which grew out of John???s submission for an MCP media thesis, critically engages the ongoing re-design of Pershing Square, an historic and oft-misunderstood public space in downtown Los Angeles. Through community engagement, historical revisionism, and cinematic storytelling, Redemption Square aims to communicate hidden experiences of both users and city officials involved in shaping public space, and to engender conversation between polarized stakeholders.

Following the screening, John and Anne Whiston Spirn will lead a discussion about the emerging rolls of film, media and storytelling in urban research and practice.

John Moody is co-founder of Invisible Cities Studio, a collaborative studio that helps people plan and design cities using film and mixed media. Prior to attending MIT???s Department of Urban Studies and Planning, John directed the cerebral city (2015) (https://vimeo.com/131396094) , which won best urban design film at the New Urbanism Film Festival, as well as worked as a camera professional for TV shows, films, and commercials in both Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon.
